Shawanaga First Nation strives to provide equal opportunities for all members of the community to develop, enhance, and succeed in economic growth while promoting the continued social, traditional, and spiritual development of the First Nation.

The Anishinabe community holds General Elections every four years to elect one Chief and five Councilors.

The services Shawanaga First Nation provides to its members are provided through several main community buildings, including:

  • The Administration Office
  • The Healing Centre
  • Kinomaugewgamik Elementary School
  • Anishinabek Police Services
  • Independent First Nations (Health Services)
  • Gezhtoojig Employment & Training Head Office

Shawanaga’s Traditional Territory is generally described as, but not limited to, an area bordered by the Seguin River on the south, the Magnetawan River on the north and extending from Georgian Bay including the 30,000 Islands, eastward to the height of the land (Ottawa Valley). Located approximately 35 kilometers northwest of Parry Sound, the community is comprised of approximately 550 band members, with about 190 living on-reserve. Overall, the community has a land base of approximately 3,377 hectares.

Shawanaga First Nation is a community with a vision of the future that involves the use of information and communication technologies in new and innovative ways to empower its residents, institutions and its community as a whole.
