Full-time Addictions Worker for Shawanaga First Nations NNADAP Program
Location: Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre, Nobel ON (North of Parry Sound)

 

Purpose & Reports

To promote and develop awareness and provide assistance for children, youth, adults, elders and families in social, mental, cultural spiritual, information and educational activities to prevent and assist recovering from drug, alcohol and gambling addictions. Reporting to Service Administrator

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. To provide community awareness, education and to conduct focused programs on addictions and coordinate social/recreational events
  2. To assist with applications and provide liaison with treatment centres, clients, community services and ensure support and after care is provided
  3. Counselling and Support Services through drop in sessions, home and office visits and refers to traditional healer on request
  4. Provides and promotes self help groups i.e. AA, Al-anon, Al-ateen, N.A. and ACOA
  5. Case Management through consultation with other programs and maintains files
  6. Prepares Monthly activities reports to Service Administrator and funding agencies as required
  7. Prepares work plans for NNADAP and other approved funding programs
  8. Team player who  performs other duties as required for this role and as assigned

Qualifications

  1. Certified Drug and Alcohol Worker with Community College Diploma in Native Community Care and Development with Mental Health, Addictions or Social Services with current knowledge of how to access addictions programs
  2. Knowledge of First Nations communities and able to work with aboriginal people of all ages and demonstrated commitment to own personal healing- (aboriginal preferred)
  3. Must possess excellent communication and computer skills
  4. Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle and current CPIC for Vulnerable Sector

Hours of Work

37.5 hr/wk, primarily Mon-Friday with some evening and weekend work as needed to meet the needs of the program for optimal outcomes i.e. youth programming off hours, to be determined
