National Aboriginal Addictions Awareness Week (NAAAW)

Living The Good Life
NAAAW is a celebration every year that is grounded in the empowerment and capacity building of First Nation and Inuit Individuals, families, and organizations that will contribute to the creation of positive, safe healthy environments.
During NAAAW week, communities are encouraged to enhance relationships with others through planning and developing community-based activities that bring people together in positive and affirming ways.
The Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre is pleased to present the following activities for this year’s NAAAW Week

Sunday, November 13, 2011 – 10:00 am to 12:00 pm – Healing Centre
The official Launch of NAAAW week will start with a Community Breakfast. Opening Remarks by Chief Dan Pawis. Door Prizes. Video monologues by Shawanaga First Nation children (age group 7-12). Pledge Taking.
Monday, November 14, 2011 – 5:00 to 8:00 pm – Recreation Centre
Social Evening: Drumming, dancing, and socializing. A light supper will be provided.
Tuesday, November 15, 2011 – 1:00 to 2:00 pm – Shawanaga Elementary School
Children’s Poster Contest and Video Presentation: “The Gift of Sacred Tobacco.” The children at the local school will be drawing posters on what NAAAW week means to them. Judging for the posters will take place at the Potluck Supper on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Rec Centre. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Wednesday, November 16, 2011 5:00 to 7:00 pm – Healing Centre
Sobriety Supper – This supper is to recognize each and every member who has come into their own recovery, by making changes in their lives to live life without alcohol or drugs. Come out and celebrate your sobriety. Please call Janice at the Healing Centre if you will be attending.
Thursday, November 17, 2011 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. –Recreation Centre
MADD (Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers) Presentation
APS Presentation
Pizza Dinner Provided
Friday, November 18, 2011- 6:00 – 9:00 pm – Healing Centre
Youth Evening – Video “The Truth About Drugs”. Open discussion afterwards.
Snack provided.
Saturday, November 19, 2011- 10:00 – 4:00 pm – Recreation Centre
Family Volleyball Day. Please submit your team roster to Sherrill or Crystal.
Pot Luck Dinner – 5:00 to 7:00 pm
